Namibia’s land surface covers an area of more or less 823 680km. The distance from the most northern point to the most southern point is about 1320 km. From west to east, at its narrowest point, Namibia is about 350km wide, while the widest point, between the mouth of the Kunene and Impala Island in the Caprivi, is about 1440km wide. The overall perimeter of the country is about 5 760 km, of which 1 570 km is coast line.

Namibia is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west; Angola and Zambia to the north; Botswana and Zimbabwe to the east and South Africa to the south east.

The Namib Desert stretches from the Kunene River in the north to the Orange River in the South. It varies in width between 50km and 100 km. The northern desert consists mainly of gravel and rock and the southern part is sandy, with dunes.
